Utilizing smart, internet connected closed loop ecosystems to overcome challenges in feeding the world’s population – Presented by Karthik Ranjan, ARM at the Smart Farming Conference, which takes place on Jun 29, 2017, at Villa Flora, Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo, The Netherlands.
UN projections estimate the world climb to well over 9 billion by 2050, combined with increasing water scarcity and reduced arable land, this presents us with many challenges to grow enough food to feed these people. Fortunately internet connectivity combined with innovations in technology and biochemistry are on the horizon promising to deliver innovative sensing solutions to optimize use of resources and enable precision farming to become a reality. This talk will explore the end to end ecosystem of precision farming looking at soil sensing to plant image sensing and how connectivity will drive increased yield in the future.
About Karthik Ranjan
Karthik was appointed director of IoT Services Group in April of 2017 and has been with ARM for over 7 years, based in Seattle. He previously held a position as head of emerging technologies where he looked at new areas for ARM including agriculture.
ARM® technology is at the heart of a computing and connectivity revolution that is transforming the way people live and businesses operate. Every day more than 45 million ARM-based chips are shipped by our partners into products that enhance the human experience; connecting people, improving lives and making the impossible possible. From the sensor to the cloud and all points in between, ARM is shaping the smart connected world.
Their advanced processor designs have provided the intelligence in over 95 billion silicon chips now powering products from smartphones to supercomputers, medical devices to agricultural sensors and base stations to servers. With thousands of technology partners including the world’s most famous business and consumer brands, we collaborate to drive innovation into all areas compute is possible.
About Smart Farming Conference
The Smart Farming Conference is part of the first global Innovative Food-Agri Event – a two-day event (Jun 28-29, 2017) that includes 4 dedicated conferences and an exhibition:
- 3D FoodPrinting Conference (Jun 28, 2017)
- Vertical Farming Conference (Jun 28, 2017)
- Healthy Nutrition Conference, (Jun 29 2017)
- Smart Farming Conference (Jun 29, 2017)
- Smart Food Farming Expo (Jun 28-29, 2017)
Scope: After mechanisation, the introduction of mineral fertiliser and the industrialisation of production processes, connectivity and data management are now set to unleash the next revolution in the history of farming, smart farming. Precision agriculture has been an evolving reality for some time, but It has now reached a point where it is not only possible to collect vast quantities of data, but also to control different pieces of equipment or monitor individual animals, the Internet of Things. A growing number of farmers are starting to adopt digital technology and data-driven innovations.
What new business models will be successful, and will new players disrupt the traditional farming landscape? How to deal with change (from traditional farmer to smart farmer)? How to identify and develop innovative methods for sustainable food production? The conference will answer this kind of questions.
