Pixel Farming, farming in the digital era – Presented by Arend Koekkoek, Idea-x/ Campus Almkerk, at the Smart Farming Conference, which takes place on June 28, 2018, in Venlo, The Netherlands.

What if we could solve a lot of the environmental issues of agriculture and improve production efficiency? Pixel Farming enables a digital approach of the full food production chain, allowing us to produce food in an environmentally friendly way by utilising the power of biodiversity and data.

In this presentation you will get an overview of pixel farming and the current development programme that is ongoing on the Campus in Almkerk.

What drives you?
I believe a self-sustaining future for the generations to come is achievable, just by using our heads ánd acting on it.

What are the three things you would take with you on a deserted island?
My family, swiming gear and an aeroplane to take me back to the rest of the world

What emerging technologies/trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?
Open source robotics and computer vision

What kind of impact do you expect them to have?
Equalisation of prosperity, more freedom, improved environment

What are the barriers that might stand in the way?
The current production and supply chains

What do you hope people to learn from your presentation?
That it is possible to do mass production of food in an envinromentally friendly manner just by applying a digital approach
